Nokia has been long rumored to plan the launch of an Android-based smartphone, and it appears that we’re getting closer to the day when this phone will go official.

The smartphone has made an appearance in Indonesia a few weeks back, when it received certification at POSTEL, and it appears that Nokia has also had the phone approved in Malaysia.

A certain Nokia RM-980 was seen at ecomm.sirim, where it has been listed as being approved in the country since January 24, as NokiaPowerUser notes. This is the model number of Nokia’s rumored Android device, called Nokia X or Normandy.

The phone was spotted in a variety of leaked images as well, though an official confirmation on it has yet to emerge. Based on previous reports on the matter, we could expect Nokia to make the handset official at MWC this month, so stay tuned for more on this.
