Today marks a great day for Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia, as the company's first Windows Phone handset, the Lumia 800, became available for purchase in the UK in Europe.

Starting today, mobile phone users in the country can purchase the new device both on contract and unlocked, via various wireless carriers and retailers in the country.

Those who would like to grab one unit will be able to do so via operators like Orange, Three, T-Mobile and Vodafone, with the signing of contract deals with them.

While available for free on contract, the handset can also be purchased unlocked via online retailers such as Phones4u or the Carphone Warehouse.

Today, Nokia Lumia 800 arrives only in a handful of markets, but it is expected to benefit from expanded availability soon, at least this is what Nokia announced last month.
