Although it has already entered the tablet market, Amazon won’t launch a smartphone anytime soon, at least not this year, it seems.

Following speculation that it was indeed getting ready to launch such a device, the company stepped up and officially said that it had no plans on releasing a smartphone before the end of this year, Wall Street Journal’s Amir Efrati reports.

The handset was rumored quite a few times before as set to land on shelves as the “Kindle phone,” and was also said recently to be a free device, but this won’t happen, Amazon claims.

Amazon has long declined to comment on the possible launch of a smartphone, but it appears that it has just confirmed the possible release of such a device. However, no further details on the handset have been provided as of now.
