Google is planning the release of a software update to fix it

Owners of Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 devices out there are reporting a rather strange issue with their devices, with the volume of the headset microphone being way below the wanted levels when in conversations.

Basically, people at the other end of the line have a hard time hearing what the owner of such a device is saying, a recent post on Android Police explains.

The problem emerges only when using the headset, and it appears to come from the Automatic Gain Control (AGC), which is the software responsible with setting the level of the input based on the quality of the signal.

A workaround does exist for this, involving the use of an application that can disable the AGC while making recordings, yet it is not a permanent fix, that’s for sure.

However, it appears that Google is already aware of the situation, and that it plans on releasing a software update for the Nexus 5 to resolve it, a post on the company's forums explains. Nexus 4 could receive the fix as well.
