MediaTek-based smartphones are already available for purchase around the world, and it seems that that more of them are set to hit shelves in the not too distant future, including some coming from vendors such as Sony, Lenovo, Huawei, and ZTE.

MediaTek is already offering its mobile processors at low price tags, but it seems that the company is getting ready for a price cut of its quad-core MT6589 solution, so as to make it even more appealing to customers.

Selling at US$20 at the moment, the CPU is set to become available at only US$18 starting with April 1, Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) reports, according to DigiTimes.

Furthermore, the news site claims that the MediaTek is also preparing to kick off mass production of the low-cost MT6589m chip, as it has received orders for its solutions from over 20 manufacturers, including Lenovo, ZTE, Huawei, TCL, Gionee, and Sony.
