Mozilla is finally nearing the commercial availability of its Firefox OS platform, and it has already announced that a new device powered by the platform would be launched on June 3, in partnership with Foxconn.

No specific info on the device has been provided, yet focustaiwan notes that it might be a tablet, to complement the previously launched Keon and Peak developer smartphones.

This might be the first commercially available Firefox OS-based product in the world, given that Mozilla has previously confirmed the release of such devices in June, though it could also turn into a developer slate.

Only five countries will receive smartphones / tablets the next month, namely Venezuela, Poland, Brazil, Portugal, and Spain, though 11 others should also get them before the end of the year.

Mozilla’s Firefox OS will be aimed mainly at developing markets, and devices running under it are expected to feature low price tags and entry-level specs.
