Today, Verizon Wireless and Motorola Mobility will kick-off the 4G LTE upgrade process for all Motorola XOOM devices on the wireless carrier's airwaves.

The update was expected to arrive on devices since early 2011, but the two companies haven't been able to make it available until now.

Starting today, users can go to Verizon's website here to access complete instructions on the update, and to start the process. Verizon will send out email alerts to users who sign there.

Users will need to send their Motorola XOOM devices to Motorola for the 4G LTE upgrade, and will receive them back in approximately six business days.

The update is being performed free of charge and does not require for users to change their current data plan. However, they should back up the device before sending it to upgrade.
