Motorola recently announced that the old Motorola MILESTONE 2 will finally receive the Android 2.3 Gingerbread sometime today.

The smartphone was launched last year in the United States as DROID 2, but the European version is still delivered with Android 2.2 Froyo on board.

MILESTONE 2 owners with unrooted units will be able to download and install the Gingerbread update according to Motorola upgrading scheduler, which has yet to be announced.

Although the company issued a short statement on its official Facebook account, there’s no clue on whether or not this update will be pushed OTA (over the air).

However, Motorola mentions that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update will be rolled out in stages in multiple European countries, but there’s no telling which ones will get it first.
