A few days ago, a report regarding the upcoming availability of a Motorola smartphone packing a 5.9-inch touchscreen display made it online, and a few more details on the device are now available.

According to the previous report, the handset is being developed by Motorola in collaboration with Google as a Nexus smartphone, and might arrive on shelves before the end of this year.

New info on the matter, coming from The Information, confirms the existence of a tablet-sized phone from Motorola, while also unveiling that Motorola won’t be releasing this device as a Google subsidiary.

Basically, Motorola and Google want to avoid concerns about the latter favoring the phone maker. Earlier this year, Motorola was sold to Lenovo.

The upcoming mobile phone is said once again to be featuring the codename of Shamu, yet no specific info on the hardware specs it might include has been provided.

As fonearena points out, Google chose Motorola for the upcoming Nexus smartphone so as to pack it with a series of Motorola trademark features, including the always-on voice commands and the active notifications that Moto X and Moto G users can enjoy at the moment.

As mentioned above, the smartphone is expected to go official before the end of this year, most probably in November, when the upcoming Android L OS version should become available too.
