Microsoft’s GroupMe messaging application has just received a small but important update on Windows Phone platform, which brings a few new features and some improvements.

One of the major features that have been introduced in the latest version of GroupMe is the ability to share your location. This feature was not available in previous versions of the application, but thanks to the latest update, users will now be able to take advantage of the share location capability.

Another important new feature is the addition of meme images. As we mentioned earlier, the update also brings some under-the-hood enhancements meant to improve user overall experience.

According to the official changelog, Microsoft included some improvements to inline content and lots of other performance enhancements and bug fixes. No additional details on the latter have been unveiled though.

You can now download GroupMe for Windows Phone 4.8.1 for free via Windows Phone Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Windows Phone 7.5 and up.

Keep in mind though that some features are only working in certain regions. For example, the SMS chat is currently available only in the United States. It’s also worth mentioning that, while using this feature, standard text messaging rates may apply.
