Windows Phone 8.1 has been the most important update for Microsoft’s mobile operating system since Windows Phone 7 was officially introduced on the market.

In fact, because it comes with so many features and improvements, Windows Phone 8.1 can be easily tagged as a completely overhauled Windows Phone 8 operating system instead of a simple update.

In order to highlight some of the new changes included in Windows Phone 8.1, Microsoft released a 16-minute video in which Joe Belfiore, the company’s VP for Windows, introduces the new operating system to fans.

Even though the video is extensive enough, Belfiore barely scratches on the insides of the new Windows Phone 8.1 features. Nevertheless, newcomers to Windows Phone, as well as long-time users will definitely find this video very informative.

Current Windows Phone 8 users should know that the next major update for their smartphone is set to arrive in the coming months. Microsoft has confirmed that Windows Phone 8.1 will be available for all Windows Phone 8 devices in late summer.

Nokia has also confirmed that its own update for Lumia smartphones, Lumia Cyan, will be available for download in the coming months. The update will contain Windows Phone 8.1 along with some extra features added by the Finnish company.
