Carrier billing is a great feature that is offered by both Windows Phone and Android operating system. Apple only sells games and apps via its App Store, it does not offer customers the chance to shop via carrier billing.

Microsoft has partnerships with carriers in many countries all over the world, but India is not among the regions where this feature is available.

However, this is about to change, as Tech.Firstpost reports that Microsoft is now in talks with major carriers in India to introduce this feature for Windows Phone users in this country.

Microsoft India Director for Windows Phone category, Vineet Durani, has told reporters that his company is “in the process of announcing a telecom operator for the above facility within the next few months.”

This would be a great move for Microsoft, as Windows Phone is highly regarded in India where it won lots of adopters who switched from other operating systems.

Another advantage is the fact that many Windows Phone users that do not have access to a credit card will finally be able to purchase certain apps and games on their carrier charge bill.

Here is hoping that Microsoft will announce the availability of carrier billing in India sooner rather than later. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.

On a side note, keep in mind that carrier billing is available in India only for certain services like Nokia Music Store, but not for apps or games.
