Chinese chip maker MediaTek is allegedly getting ready for the launch of its first 4G LTE-enabled mobile processor as soon as January, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

The processor, said to be none other than the MT6595 CPU, was previously expected to land several months later, but it appears that the company has managed to speed up development.

Last week, the Chinese government granted 4G LTE licenses to wireless carriers in the country, and it was only natural for the MediaTek to try to grab a piece of the market as well.

According to info coming from MTKSJ, the MT6595 will include the same 8-core architecture as the MT6592 chip, and will have its cores clocked in at either 1.7GHz or 1.2GHz.

Furthermore, it is expected to pack support for WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, and GSM networks, in addition to FDD-LTE and TD-LTE support, as GizChina reports.
