14 DAY TRIAL // South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics appears set to bet big on smartphones packing 5-inch screens, as it believes that this will become the norm in the not too distant future.
Speaking with TrustedReviews, LG’s Product Marketing Manager Shaun Musgrave suggested that the industry will stop at the 5-inch mark, given the fact that larger screens will significantly hurt portability, which is, in fact, the main feature of smartphones.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that larger devices won’t arrive on shelves, but it does mean that they will continue to prove only a niche market.
The vast majority of devices, however, will gravitate around the 5-inch mark, which has already blurred the line between smartphones and tablet PCs.
“These screen sizes seem to be a success. People want to see their content; it’s like taking your tablet with you,” he said.
