Sony announced late last month that several Xperia smartphones would receive their long-awaited Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates by the end of May.

Today, the folks over at XperiaBlog report that a new firmware version 6.2.B.0.204 for Xperia ion has been certified by PTCRB and is expected to arrive soon. Keep in mind that the approved firmware is for the HSPA+ version of Xperia ion, also known as Sony LT28h.

This comes in line with Sony’s release schedule for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates, so Xperia ion users should expect the promised upgrade to be released by the end of the month.

Obviously, it’s not yet certain that Sony will be able to offer the Jelly Bean update to Xperia ion owners in late May, as promised, but the fact that the new firmware version has been approved by PTCRB indicates that things are going according to plan. Stay tuned for more info on the matter.
