Chip maker Intel is reportedly gearing up for the launch of a new series of Atom processors aimed at the mobile market, codenamed SoFIA, which is expected to be built using TSMC's 28nm HKMG process technology.

According to a recent article on DigiTimes, Intel has partnered with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) for the building of this chipset, although no official confirmation on the matter has been provided as of now.

The upcoming SoFIA SoCs are said to be targeted at entry-level smartphones, but Intel also has in store a CPU for high-end devices, codenamed Broxton, which will be based on the company’s own 14nm FinFET process.

Intel’s mobile processors have started to emerge in more and more smartphones out there, and it seems that the company is planning an assault on the mobile phone market with the new chips, yet no info on when they will arrive has been provided as of now.
