Google has just announced it has added a new Hangouts feature that has been available to iOS users since last year for its Android client. The new Android feature allows external guests using Hangouts to join video calls from their smartphones with a meeting link.

The meeting link should be provided by the organizer of the video call. It also worth mentioning that video calls shared with the link require someone in the Apps domain of the Hangouts video call to accept those requesting access on the web.

The new feature has been added to Chromebox for Meetings devices as well, so those who own these devices can request to join Hangouts video calls as a guest using a link. In addition, they can also accept requests from guests who want to join using a link.

According to Google, in order to join a Hangouts video call from Chromebox for Meetings device, you will need to “enter the domain in which the meeting is hosted followed by a ‘/’ and the meeting name. As before, if the meeting is hosted in your organization, the domain name is not necessary.”

You can now download Hangouts for Android 3.0 for free via Google Play Store. Keep in mind that the application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.0 and up.
