Chinese company Gionee recently made a push for the Indian smartphone market with a handful of amazingly solid devices. Although Gionee's main market remains China, its newest handsets have become very popular in emerging markets such as India.

One of the latest additions to Gionee's high-end segment is the Elife E7, which was released in India last month. The smartphone is now showcased at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014, and we were happy to take it for a spin.

First of all, Gionee Elife E7 boasts a large 5.5-inch full HD display, but looks rather slim at only 9.5 mm thickness. It's pretty light for its size and looks very stylish at first glance.

Its only drawback design-wise might be the fact that it's made of well-polished plastic, which doesn't offer a good grip on the phone.

However, the Elife E7 feels nice to the touch and well balanced when handled with just one hand, which is a rare thing for such large smartphones.

Hardware-wise, we had no issues at all, as the Gionee Elife E7 was extremely snappy even when running with multiple applications in the background. But that's no surprise given the fact that Gionee packed a very powerful 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor inside.

Overall, Gionee's Elife E7 proves worthy of the “premium” tag, which is not a small feat if we take into consideration the fact that it's made by a Chinese company.
