Owners of HTC One M8 smartphones in Canada are now receiving a new software update on their devices, one that bumps the phone’s firmware version up to build 1.55.631.4.

As part of this update, users will get a taste of the Extreme Power Saving Mode capabilities that were included in the phone right from the start in other markets out there, as MobileSyrup notes.

Apparently, FCC had to test the feature to ensure that emergency calls would get through when the phone is in said low power state, and this has delayed the release of the update in Canada and the US.

The feature will provide users with an extra 24 hours of standby time even when the battery level is below 10 percent. Most of the handset’s features will be shut down in this state, though users will be able to occasionally make calls and send texts.

In addition to the Extreme Power Saving Mode, the new software release is also said to provide users with a series of enhancements for the camera and gallery applications.

Apparently, the update is available now for all versions of the mobile phone. The Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS and Sense 6.0 UI loaded on top of the phone will remain unchanged.

The new firmware version will arrive on handsets as a 149.85MB download. Users interested in grabbing it should head over to Settings > About Phone > Software updates to manually check on its availability.
