Not many handset manufacturers can pride themselves with delivering software updates as fast as HTC does. Although the Taiwanese company faces the same challenges as other handset makers do when it comes to offering updates for carrier-branded smartphones, it looks like HTC is more successful.

HTC promised it would bring its entire One series to Android 5.0 Lollipop and they have already done it for the most part.

There are some exceptions with carriers that have yet to release this major update in some countries, but it's not HTC's fault.

Today, HTC's Mo Versi provided fans with more good news about future updates. According to him, Google has just granted approval for Android 5.1 Lollipop update for HTC One M7 and One M8 Google Play Edition versions.

The fact that these GPE smartphones will receive the latest version of Android isn't news, as HTC confirmed the information a while ago.

However, it's unclear whether or not the international version of HTC One M7 will receive Android 5.1 Lollipop as well.

The Taiwanese company announced that the smartphone wouldn't be updated any further, but after receiving overwhelming feedback, it backtracked on the initial statement.

The good news is Google Play Edition versions of HTC One M8 and One M7 will receive Android 5.1 Lollipop OTA update very soon.
