Google has just released a new version of its News & Weather application for Android devices. This is one of the most important updates that this particular application has received since its release on Google Play Store.

Aside from being totally redesigned, Google News & Weather now features tablet support and allows users to sign in with their Google accounts so that they could take advantage of the Google News personalization.

The update turns News & Weather into a much better-looking application, that’s more akin to Google’s upcoming Android L style called Material Design.

With the latest version of the application, users will be able to expand items and see additional details, or swipe between pages for new topics. Expanding stories for snipets and related articles allows users to get more in-depth info on particular subjects that interest them.

According to developers, the latest update also adds weather and local news for multiple locations, as well as brand new resizable homescreen widgets. Keep in mind that News & Weather will now allow you to change editions for news in different countries.

On a side note, it appears that the latest update has broken the application on Xperia smartphones, but Google has confirmed that it’s now investigating these crash reports and will come up with a fix as soon as possible.

You can now download Google News & Weather for Android 2.0 for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.0 and up.
