Rumor has it that Google’s next version of Hangouts will be packed with SMS and MMS features. Video sharing capabilities is something that’s being taken into consideration as well.

AndroidPolice’s Artem Russakovskii reports that sources close to the matter claim that Google plans to introduce full SMS and MMS integration to Hangouts 1.3, the next version of the search giant’s messaging app.

Hangouts users will be able to notice a “via SMS” sign next to each message that’s been received through this method of communication. Those who wish to make sure that their SMS messages are received can also request delivery reports.

Although the cited source hasn’t been able to confirm that you will actually be able to send videos via MMS, it will be possible to send pictures.

Unfortunately, there’s no telling when exactly Hangouts 1.3 will be rolled out. According to Russakovskii, Google may release it before or after Android 4.4 Kit Kat. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
