Google has finally removed the QuickOffice application from Google Play Store and added all document editing features to Docs, its own build app for Android devices.

Beginning today, a new version of Google Docs for Android device is available for download, which brings lots of the features users of the mobile platform were dying for.

First of all, you will now be able to create and edit Word documents, which wasn’t possible before. The latest update also adds support for Android L, so early adopters will now be able to take advantage of Google Docs features as well.

According to the official changelog, there are now fewer persistent icons in action bar and there’s also a floating new document button added. The update also adds dictionary permissions for better spellcheck and corrections, but users will also be able to add words to dictionary more easily.

The UI has been tweaked and received a slight redesign, so users will notice there’s a new account selection drop-down style, a new details page and a new editing UI (user interface).

You will also notice that the file list differentiates between Word and Docs files and that there are new options to open files from device storage and send files as PDF or Word.

You can now download Google Docs for Android 1.3.251.9 for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.0 and up.
