Samsung is readying the deployment of a new software update to the owners of its large smartphone/tablet PC hybrid called Galaxy Note.

The update is set to start arriving on smartphones in Europe in no time, and should deliver a variety of functionality enhancements to the large smartphone. Over all, the maintenance update that Samsung has in store for its Galaxy Note users now is meant to greatly optimize the device, the unwired notes.

Following the update, users will enjoy the possibility to shrink the keyboard and dial-pad for one hand use, screen brightness optimizations for web browsing, a dedicated torch widget for the homescreen, as well as a virtual keyboard spread on five rows now.

Moreover, the new update will offer users the possibility to unlock the device through moving their thumb only a bit, while benefitting from more information being displayed on the unlocking screen.

Weighing 70MB, the update does not bring along a new Android OS flavor as well, but leaves the same 2.3.6 Gingerbread platform on the Galaxy Note.
