Starting with the next year, flexible displays will become widely used in smartphones and other mobile devices, a new report on the matter suggests.

Apparently, companies will be moving towards bendable screens starting with 2014, and not just panels that are curved, which can already be found on various smartphones out there.

A recent article on Korea Herald cites Kim Yun-hi, leading researcher and Chemistry professor at the Gyeongsang National University, who claims that smart devices that can be folded will indeed arrive on shelves in the near future.

He also says that smartwatches and other wearable technology will come with fully bendable displays in the coming years.

The professor has already managed to discover organic polymers that would allow the industry to overcome the limitations that current technologies feature. However, it remains to be seen how soon hardware makers will adopt them.
