The software offers to download and install an additional .APK

A few months ago, owners of Android-based devices were allegedly served with an unofficial BBM application said to be capable of replacing BlackBerry’s Messenger, and it appears that the app is now back in the Google Play Store.

Called BBM and coming from BBM Droid, the application won’t install the actual messenger client on Android devices, but is allegedly designed to enable them to download it afterwards.

The software costs $1.49 to download, but it will never actually deliver to its promise, as PhoneArena notes.

Although the app might sound very tempting, users are advised to stay away from it. The mere fact that it was designed to download an .APK file upon installation sounds suspicious enough, as the file might contain malicious code.

Furthermore, some of those who have downloaded and installed it claim that it is not capable of pushing BBM messages through, one more reason to avoid it.
