Google has quietly released a new version of its Google Play Games application for Android devices. The small update brings a few important features aimed at Android games, as well as some tweaks meant to improve browsing through menus.

The most important new feature introduced with the latest update is the ability to join multiplayer games even if you don’t have the game opened.

As AndroidPolice points out, the previous versions of Google Play Games allowed Android users to join multiplayer games only within the app. However, version 1.5 allows users to send invitations for multiplayer games, thus making it easier for players to join.

Another new feature added in the latest version of Google Play Games will allow Android users to see which people in your circles are playing a game.

Some tweaks to the UI have been included as well, such as the Settings menu which has been moved to the sidebar. All invites received are now listed under a new category called Matches.

Recommended Games category has been renamed to Find Games. The pull-to-refresh action seems to be working for the application’s leaderboard as well.

New users can now download Google Play Games for Android 1.5 via Google Play store. The application has been confirmed to work with all devices powered by Android 2.2 and up.
