Canadian mobile phone maker BlackBerry is reportedly getting ready for the release of the BlackBerry OS 10.2.1 platform upgrade starting with the next week, and January 28 should be the lucky day for enthusiasts.

No official word on the matter has been provided as of now, but a report from N4BB suggests that one source familiar with the company’s plans on this has confirmed it.

The info falls in line with previous reports on the availability of the update, which suggests that it might pan out in the end.

Starting with January 28, users in Europe and APAC regions should be receiving the operating system update, though a full timeframe for the roll-out hasn’t been provided as of now.

The upcoming platform version should provide users with access to more Android applications, as well as with a series of new features, such as Picture Password, Customizable Quick Settings, and a new Call Screen.
