The update adds mobile hotspot capability to both smartphones

Rumors about the next important BlackBerry update emerged last week. BlackBerry 7.1 operating system is supposed to bring mobile hotspot capability to all BlackBerry smartphones that currently lack this function.

It appears that Sprint is among the first carriers to make the update available for two BlackBerry devices in its portfolio, the Bold 9930 and Torch 9850.

Research In Motion (RIM) already posted the update online, so Sprint customers can manually update the Windows executable file and install it. Mac users will have to wait a bit longer for an OTA (over the air) update.

Apart from bringing mobile hotspot functionality to BlackBerry smartphones, the update does not have too much else to offer.

Although the update is only available for two Sprint devices, we can safely assume that more BlackBerry smartphones will receive it by the end of the year.
