Verizon Wireless appears set to expand its smartphone offering far beyond the Android operating system that has been dominating the offering lately.

The company has already confirmed plans to launch multiple Windows Phone 8 devices, and it is now unveiling plans to add BlackBerry 10 handsets to its offering as well, straight from day one.

Research In Motion, the maker of BlackBerry, will launch the first devices running under the new platform in Q1 2013, and Verizon will support the launch, it seems.

Verizon Chief Marketing Officer Tami Erwin has confirmed such plans to CNET recently, but she did not offer further details on the actual devices that would be launched.

With Verizon being a supporter of the BlackBerry platform for a long time, it does not come too much as a surprise that it will be one of the first carriers to launch the new BlackBerry 10 handsets, that’s for sure.
