It might receive it in late 2012, when Jelly Bean arrives

Soon, maybe before the end of this year, Android users will also benefit from the features of their own Siri companion, if some of the latest reports on the matter are to be believed.

Apparently, Google is already working on getting the feature up and running, and will have it available for mass use in time for the launch of the next Android release, 5.0 Jelly Bean.

It seems that Google won’t make the new service a simple assistant, just as Siri is, even if it might arrive under this name.

Instead, the company is expected to provide developers with access to the service, so that they could integrate it in their applications.

Rumor has it that the Assistant will be some sort of a mobile, voice-centered “Do engine” designed mainly to help users accomplishing real-life goals.

However, it would still be based on what Google learned from users through its Google+ and +1 experiments.
