Micromax is one of the most popular OEMs in India with hundreds of Android smartphones launched in its entire existence. Moreover, it’s one of the few Indian handset makers that offers software updates for some of its products, even if that happens rarely.

Today, @MMXNewscaster claims that Micromax plans to start upgrading some of its smartphones to Android 4.4 KitKat operating system.

According to the cited source, Micromax plans to offer Android 4.4 KitKat updates for most smartphones powered by MediaTek chipsets.

Unfortunately, no list of eligible models is available yet, but it’s worth mentioning that most Canvas series devices are equipped with MediaTek chipsets.

The Android 4.4 KitKat updates should start arriving in early Q2 2014, but the information has yet to be confirmed by Micromax. As always, take this info with a grain of salt until we get official word from the Indian company.
