Android 5.1 adds the option of muting until alarm

All was nice and dandy when Google started rolling out the Android 5.1 Lollipop update, until users realized the absence of the good old fashion Silent Mode.

Then all hell broke loose, as people took to forums and social media, complaining about what seemed to be a major flop on Google’s behalf.

In Lollipop you’re given three notification modes (None, Priority and All), but none of them lets you silence the device while still being able to count on your alarms going off.

Priority Mode will let your alarms go through, but other notifications will weasel themselves in too, making it extremely annoying if you’re trying to power nap throughout the day (any other scenario applies).

But luckily with Android 5.1, Google is one step closer to give you back the Silent Mode you’ve been craving.

On Android 5.1 updated devices, when users opt for Priority or None Mode, they get the option to have it disabled at the next set alarm (as seen at Phandroid).

These options become visible if you have an alarm going off within the next 12 hours. Yes, it’s not the ideal scenario, but this is the closest thing to silent mode available right now. Unless you have a Samsung phone (Galaxy S5 or Galaxy Note Edge).
