South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics has yet to make the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system available for the owners of carrier branded Galaxy S4 devices in the United States, but it seems that it won’t be long before it makes the move.

The company has made the source code of the OS upgrade for Sprint’s version of the handset available for download, which suggests that it is getting closer to the update’s availability.

Samsung is usually releasing only the code for builds that are official, and things should not be different this time either, Android Police notes.

The source code itself should not be of much interest to end users, but developers can grab it now and start building custom software for the smartphone. The kernel source can be found on Samsung’s website as version L720VPUFNAE.
