Last week, HTC announced that it had submitted the Android 4.4 KitKat build for its HTC One Google Play Edition, so owners of the smartphone should expect the update to arrive in the coming days.

Although Google has yet to push the Android 4.4 KitKat for HTC One Google Play Edition, another step towards the release of the update has just been made by the Taiwanese handset maker today.

AndroidPolice reports that HTC has just released the Android 4.4 kernel source and framework files for HTC One Google Play Edition, which means that those who wish to flash their devices can do so before the OTA update goes live.

The software version 3.58.1700.5 will bring HTC One Google Play Edition handsets to Android 4.4 KitKat, along with all the new features and improvements.

Keep in mind that the framework files and the kernel source are now available for download via HTC Developers Center.
