Microsoft has been long rumored to plan the release of a new flavor of the Windows Phone operating system next year, one that would feature the codename of Blue, and some more info on it has emerged online today.

To be more precise, a so called “partial” screenshot with Windows Phone Blue (Windows Phone 8.1) has emerged online, courtesy of infamous leaker @evleaks.

While it does not unveil much of the platform’s interface, the image does suggest that the upcoming operating system version would arrive with on-screen touch buttons.

Basically, this could mean that Microsoft is ready to drop the three buttons that Windows Phone devices currently feature, thus allowing for some more screen on the front of devices, without increasing their size.

This is the same approach that Google and some of its partners took for Android, though it remains to be seen whether it will indeed materialize. Stay tuned for more info on the matter.
