It’s no secret that AT&T plans to roll out a VoLTE (voice over long-term evolution) service later this year, but the fact that the carrier is using Samsung smartphones to test it is something completely new.

South Korean news agency Yonhap reports that an industry source has confirmed that the US-based carrier is testing the VoLTE service using Samsung smartphones.

AT&T seems to be willing to offer its help for Samsung’s further expansion into the US market. By the time the carrier launches its VoLTE service, several Samsung smartphones that will support it are expected to be released.

With VoLTE, AT&T customers will benefit from clearer quality during calls and faster connection than with services that use 3G network.

In the same piece of news, Verizon Wireless promised last month that it would bring the service sometime this year, but sources in the industry claim that won't happen too soon.
