It looks like the Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread update has finally reached the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II. The Korean handset maker announced the availability of the update three weeks ago, but only for unlocked Galaxy S II units.

The current update is only for AT&T’s Galaxy S II, which is not to be mistaken with the Galaxy S II Skyrocket that got the update three weeks ago.

Although AT&T has yet to publish the update’s change log, we already know that this is a 20 MB software update that will correct some bugs and improve the performance and stability of the smartphone.

Those who already rooted their AT&T Galaxy S II devices will not be able to update OTA (over the air). To manually check for the Android 2.3.6 software update, simply go to Menu / Settings / Software update / Check for updates.
