PhotoMath 1.0.1
It's a nifty application with a powerful camera calculator feature that solves math exercises fast and even shows you the steps, so that you would understand the solving method. However, it can only be used for more simplistic exercises, the developers are working on adding features for solving all sort of equations.
Sleek interface with plenty of features at hand
The app launches with a tutorial, showing new users all the neat features that the app has and the ways in which you can solve exercises. It doesn't come with material design, in fact the app doesn't really have a menu with settings, which is quite inconvenient.
It simply launches with the camera mode and offers users the option to check out equations that they're previously solved. It also displays the time when the exercise was solved, as well as the steps and the end result.
Scan exercises to find the solution
Simply point your camera to the exercise and let the app provide you with the solution. You can enlarge the scanning area, but make sure only the exercise is visible so that the app would provide you with optimum results. It can perform all sort of calculations, as long as they're not too complex.
It won't solve trigonometry problems or logarithms, but it can be used for basic calculus exercises. The developer is working on expanding the app and have it solve more types of exercises, so if it fails to recognize one you can send a feedback.
More options
It doesn't recognize handwritten text, so all exercises need to be typed. You can enable the flash on your phone, so that the app can scan exercises faster.
Swipe the screen up to display the steps that you need to take in order to get to the solution. The app makes a sound when it successfully scanned an exercise and it's ready to provide users with the solution.
However, it would have been nice if the app had more options, like some settings or general information on math exercises and equations. It also can't be used for scanning graphs as it won't provide users with any solutions for that.

Bottom Line
Design / UI8
The interface is quite nice, although it could use some mor features and a settings menu. |
Function8
It works just fine but only when it comes to basic equations and calculus exercises. |
Security8
It only needs access to a few areas of your phone, so it shouldn't pose any privacy issues. |
Battery4
Consumption is quite high, so keep an eye on resources when using this app as it can drain your battery. |
Price10
It doesn't come with ads or in-app purchases which is quite nice. |
Compatibility7
It should work on devices running Android version 4.1 or later, making it accessible to many users. |
It's a very useful app but it needs some improvement.
