One of such applications is Doze - For Better Battery Life. It's a nice app filled with all sort of features, but it could use some more tools and settings.
Simplistic app with a nice interface
The app doesn't start with a tutorial, which is quite inconvenient considering that new users could always benefit from some guidance when launching a new app. It does have some tips on the home screen, they provide an overview of all features and tools that you can choose from.
It doesn't have a side nor does it use material design. The app could use a menu with settings so you can make some changes to the app's interface and functions. Still, the UI is quite stylish and it has a really nice design.
Save battery life
In order to work, Doze needs to set up a VPN connection on your phone. The app doesn't actually kill applications running in the background, instead it prevents apps from connecting to the network when the screen is off.
The only option that you have inside the app is for adding applications in the active list. Doze doesn't actually display all applications in your phone, which means that you won't be able to pick whichever you want to run in the background. The app only has one feature to choose from and unfortunately it lacks additional tools.
Some shortcomings
We've come across quite a few battery-savers, but this is the most simplistic by far. The app could use some more features, like a section telling you which apps restart the most and use battery resources.
It would also use an app manager and a floating widget for killing apps while the screen is on. Other than that, it's missing a settings menu and users should also get a toolbar in the notification area, showing you that the app is running.
Other than that, it could use the option to adjust battery saving mode even when the screen is on, so that you could allow some apps to send and receive data.
