Tourist language 2.1

Use this guide to communicate in foreign languages
As a tourist in a foreign country it's extremely difficult to communicate with locals even in public places like restaurants, airports or train stations. Tourist language is a great tool you can use next time you encounter trouble while communicating and making yourself understood in a foreign language.

Dated UI, but easy-to-use

Just like pocket conversation guides, the app focuses on being easy-to-use and efficient when needed. The UI is pretty straightforward, displaying a long list of 58 countries and 24 languages available. There's a flag featured next to each country.

The layout is well structured, but the app comes with dull and dark colors, and almost nothing that would make it appealing to users. It's got that utility feel to it, that prevents it from standing out among other such apps.

Read the basic information on countries and their basic language rules

Simply tap on a country and the app displays all the basic information about it, including the official language, the capital city, number of population and more. There's information on the total area, currency time zone and calling code.

Each language displays a section of the alphabet and numbers they use. Tap on one number and the text-to-speech function with speak it out loud so you may repeat it. The app is also a great way of getting familiar with foreign languages and actually learning their basic phrases.

Check out useful phrases

As a tourist helper, the app comes with a section of useful phrases. It presents familiar greetings, small talk phrases, things you would say on special occasions, at the restaurant or at the hotel. In addition, there are phrases usually used at the airport, on a train, bus, taxi and even in emergency situations that implies the police or medical staff.

The app also helps you learn how to say the date and time in a certain language, using the TTS function on your phone, however it's only available with internet connection. The app doesn't work as a dictionary, so you can't search for words or phrases. In addition, the app is rather useless in case foreigners ask you questions and some words are misspelled.

Simplistic and dull design, with no animation or themes. Still, it's well-structured, comes with instructions and is easy-to-use.

Function7

It does the job and comes with TTS, but it's only available with internet connection. The app crashes at times and some phrases come with grammar errors.

It wants few permissions from your phone, mainly access to internet and photos. It doesn't pose any security or privacy risks.

Battery7

Normal consumption of power, you shouldn't worry about that.

Price6

No option of removing ads. The most annoying ones pop-up after you select the TTS for a phrase.

Compatibility8

The app should work just fine on phones and tablets running Android version 2.0 or later.
