Pho.to Lab
Clogged interface that makes it a bit confusing for new users
A sleek and clean interfaces is a must for photography applications, since they rely on ease-of-use. People don't want to watch tutorials explaining how intricate apps work, they want to open them fast, snap pictures and edit them in seconds if possible.
Pho.to Lab doesn't have a complicated interface, but because of the many colorful effects and features, new users may feel a bit confused. Some tips are offered, but not that many although it would have been useful if developers had incorporated a tutorial to show off features and tools.
Check out the many effects
The side menu offers quick access to all sections. Because the app offers 570 effects and filters, it's only natural that developers divided these features into several categories, to make it easier to find and scroll through them.
When you manage to check out some categories like headwear with various hats or borders, you'll feel overwhelmed by the plenitude of effects and realize that 570 is really a lot, probably more than most apps in store. Aside from categories, the side menu also contains a list of popular effects and filters that you've favorited. It also has an ad for another app created by the developer, a selfie-wizard that would go with this one.
Apply effects, frames and borders to pictures
Simply tap on a filter that you like and the app opens with several options that you can select. Snap a picture instantly, open your gallery or import pictures from Instagram or Facebook. It also comes with samples that you can use and automatically saves your last edited picture so you can add multiple filters to same image.
After you select it, you can adjust and crop it to the sizes you like and then the app starts processing it. Pho.to Lab needs constant internet connection as it doesn't store tools on your device, so that it wouldn't take up too much space. You can share images with friends, save them to your device or add text. Add effects to your favorites folder, so you'd have quick access.
