Onion News Network 1.1.6
Dated UI that desperately needs an upgrade
Considering the high number of visitors to the website, you'd think that developers would have been more interested in creating a fluent and sleek interface for their app. But they didn't, the app's UI is dated and really needs a new layout. It has few tools, thus excluding the need for a tutorial or at least instructions.
Browse through various videos, but some don't open
The app comes with a gallery of videos that you can check out. There's a built-in search engine, but it's hidden in the menu. Still, you wouldn't need it as the app doesn't have that many clips to choose from. All the videos are arranged into three sections. Editor's picks has all the clips with the most views and highest ratings on the website.
There's also a section with the latest videos and one with shows. Some clips won't open, while others may cause the app to crash. The ones that do play are well worth the effort because of the quality humor and satirical depiction of current events.
Share videos with friends, but only on Facebook
The website is filled with interesting and funny articles, making it unclear why they weren't included in the app as well. It would have drawn more users and help spread the content. Still, you can email or share videos that you like with friends, but only on Facebook. Videos don't come in HQ and take a lot to load.
There's also the option of browsing through clips in the landscape mode, but the thumbnails are too small and hard to distinguish from the background image.

Bottom Line
Design / UI6
Dated UI that lacks instructions and at least a presentation of the website and shows it produces. |
Function6
The app clearly has stability issues as it crashes and fails to load some videos. It's also missing extra features and sections found on the original website. |
Security8
The app doesn't need that many permissions from your phone, which isn't surprising considering its lack of features. |
Battery7
It plays videos, so it's bound to take up more battery than other apps and has the potential of leaving your phone without power. |
Price10
Completely free of charge, no ads or in-app purchases whatsoever. |
Compatibility9
It requires Android version 1.6 or later, making it accessible to many users. |
Great satirical humor, but the app needs a lot more work.
