Movie Tube EX 1.0.0

An app that streams free movies from YouTube directly on your phone
Google Play Store is filled with all sort of entertainment apps that are more suitable for a tablet's display rather than a phone's. One of such apps is Movie Tube EX. It's filled with all sort of movies that are streamed directly from YouTube.

It even comes with the ads. The app isn't that sophisticated, it sports an intuitive design but very few features and since the movies come from YouTube, you won't find the latest releases here.

Nice UI but it could use an upgrade

The app doesn't come with a tutorial or any kind of instructions, it lacks any guidance inside the app. However, it does have an intuitive interface with some features at hand, but it doesn't come with a side menu. You can navigate through sections by simply sliding the screen right or left.

It even comes with some settings in the menu, you can manage notifications and have the app keep a history of watched movies. It also lets you add favorites to a certain section and clear the history of your searches. Other than that, it doesn't have any additional changes that you can do to the UI or the app's functionality.

Watch all sort of movies

You can filter movies by genres, pick from animation, comedy, crime, classic, etc. There's a section with just uploaded content and one that displays a feed with random movies that you can check out. It displays the name of the movie and the year in which it was released, together with the duration.

It doesn't show you the number of views, nor does it have a comments section or the option to rate the movie in any way. This would have proved useful, especially since not all movies inside the app are popular.

Some shortcomings

It would have been nice if the app came with trailers to movies, especially since it takes a while to load them. But that also depends on your internet connection. Or it could have displayed a synopsis with a short description of the film. You can stream the movie either inside the app or on the YouTube app. However, keep in mind that it will also display ads coming from YouTube.

The player lets you adjust the quality of the image, but not add any subtitles whatsoever. You can add a movie to your favorites in case you want to watch it later, but you can't add a bookmark. It has a search bar for finding movies easier and it also comes with ads.

Bottom Line
Design / UI8

The interface seems a bit dated, it could use some improvements and more settings.

Function7

It works just fine, but it loads ads from YouTube and doesn't provide users with any descriptions of the movie.

Security7

It needs access to some areas that aren't connected to its features, like accounts on your device.

Battery7

Consumption is a bit high, but that's normal considering that the app streams videos so keep an eye on resources.

Price7

It's free but it loads ads from YouTube and it comes with its own banner ads.

Compatibility8

It should work on devices running Android version 2.3 or later, making it accessible to many users.

Editor's Review
