Kobo Books
Sleek interface that may get
confusing at times
Especially when it comes to e-readers, users want intuitive interfaces, with plenty of features at hand but somewhat not overcrowding the screen and taking up previous space. Kobo Books app does just that, but it may become non-responsive at times and the UI isn't well structured. In addition, the app takes its time while loading books and including suggestions and covers.
Browse through books on various topics
Still, Kobo Books offers a wide variety of books to choose from including fiction, romance, business and biographies. They're all neatly arranged in the menu on the left of the screen. The discover section is filled with subcategories of genres you can choose from.
Prices for books vary, depending on the author and the popularity as each item comes with a rating and reviews by readers. Users also have the option to read previews before purchasing books or share them with friends. The app offers readers a whole section with free books on various topics.
Read books and save them in your library
Every book that you download or buy is available in your library. You can read them even if you're offline. The reader offers quick access to chapters in the book, the option to share excerpts with friends, search for keywords inside the book.
When it comes to the reading experience, the app offers all the basic amenities for changing the font size and style, the screen brightness and theme to make it easier to read. It also comes with a dictionary that provides explanations to all the words that you might not be familiar with.
The app requires online registration, you can set up an account or log in with your Facebook user profile. However, keep in mind that the app automatically shares the books you read on your timeline, even if you disable this feature.

Bottom Line
Design / UI8
The UI is sleek but it may become confusing and non-responsive at times. In addition, the app has trouble with loading reviews and covers. |
Function9
It's filled with the latest released books and offers previews. The app also has a section with free books that you can download to your phone. |
Security5
It accesses many areas of your phone and keeps checking the box for sharing books you read or buy on your Facebook timeline. |
Battery7
Not necessarily a battery drainer, but your power resources may significantly shrink after extended use. |
Price8
The app is completely free of charge, but most of its content must be purchased. |
Compatibility8
The developer didn't mention Android versions required for this app, still it should work just fine on smartphones and tablets with a wide screen. |
A good application for buying and reading books on the go.
