With the rise of today's smartphones, the line between phones and computers is becoming thinner than ever. But, even though smartphones are based on a file system similar to the one used in desktop computers, the difference lies in the fact that in mobile devices users don't have direct access to the file system.

In Android for example, to access your downloaded files you need to open the Downloads app, while viewing your pictures is done via the Photos app. Power users, accustomed to the file-related workflow from computers, will most likely feel the need to browse and manage their files in a similar way. This is where Ghost Commander comes in.

The ultimate file manager

The user interface consists of two panels which can display separate folders each, with the toolbar at the bottom being used to perform copy, move, rename and other operations. The buttons displayed on the toolbar are fully customizable, the app offering you freedom to change their order, remove the ones you do not use and even add new buttons which aren't shown by default.

It is worth noting that some of aforementioned functionality, along with several other features like file sharing, is also available by long-tapping on a file or folder. While Ghost Commander displays two panels side by side, when using the smartphone in portrait orientation, due to the smaller horizontal screen estate this mode isn't especially useful.

In order to solve this problem, when holding the device in portrait mode, the app displays only the contents of one of the panels. However, if you prefer to view the contents of both panels in both portrait and landscape orientations, you can activate the appropriate option from the program's settings.

Several functions and tools packed in one app

One of the extra features that will make your life easier is support for ZIP files, the app being capable of both creating and extracting from archives. What's more, Ghost Commander treats existing ZIP files as folders, allowing you to browse their contents the same way. As a side note, the app cannot uncompress encrypted archives, but you cannot really blame it, as ZIP support is to be regarded as a bonus feature.

Ghost Commander was designed as an all-in-one solution, allowing you to access not only files stored in the internal memory or on the SD card, but files from remote locations as well. The app comes with a built-in FTP client that enables you to easily upload and download files.

If you need to transfer data between your device and other online storage services, you will be happy to know that Ghost Commander can do this too. By installing the appropriate plugin, you can also access files on SFTP servers, Windows computers in the local network via SMB, and cloud drives such as Dropbox, Box and Google Drive.
