Flightradar24 Free 6.1
Easy-to-use app, with some features
The user-interface is intuitive, but rather plain. The app opens with a world map and displays all airborne planes, together with airports and the user's location. All planes are marked in yellow, so it's extremely difficult to differentiate one from another, considering that Flightradar also shows parked planes. Tap on one plane and the app displays its name and airline, but not the destination or even speed.
Flightradar24 Free uses Google maps to display location, so the only other settings for maps are terrain and satellite. You can also set the map to follow a market plane as it travels realtime, show ground traffic, airports or the phone's location. Other than that, there's not much customization you can do to the map.
Search for flights
In case you were wondering which aicrafts are visible on the app's map, the help section provides detailed information on the airplanes equipped with the ADS-B tracking system. The app lets you search for certain flights by using the flight's number, making it easy to spot the airplane you're interested in.
In addition, it comes with augmented reality view, you could identify planes flying overhead by simply pointing the camera at the sky. Also, ads are automatically removed with an upgrade.
Upgrade for more features
The main reason why anyone would use this app is to check the route and arrival time of a specific plane. You can only do that if you upgrade to the premium version for 3,45$.
The pro version displays route, speed, altitude and even a picture of each aircraft, options to search for a specific flight and filter planes by speed and altitude. It also includes plenty of filters to choose from, together with the option of saving multiple locations.

Bottom Line
Design / UI8
The user-interface is neat, but banner ads ruin its whole professional look by taking up screen space. |
Function8
The app performs well, however the free version is missing lots of useful features that can only be unlocked with an upgrade. |
Security9
The app doesn't require online registration and only collect data on your location, for displaying flights. |
Battery7
Uses quite a fair amount of battery resources, especially for live tracking. |
Price8
Completely free of charge, but comes with banner ads and many useful features are available only with an upgrade. |
Compatibility9
The app requires Android version 2.2 and up, making it accessible to many users. |
A great app for live tracking flights around the world, but many functions are only available with an upgrade.
