BBC Horizons 1.3.2
One of such apps is BBC Horizons. It's an ongoing and long-running British documentary television series on BBC that covers science and philosophy. However, the app is far from being as good as the show, since some videos don't really play and it has really few features.
Nice interface that's non-responsive at times and takes a lot to load
The app doesn't come with a tutorial or any kind of instructions for new users to get a general idea of the app and take advantage of all of its features. It also lacks a settings menu or any kind of presentation for new users and people that aren't familiar with the series.
It does however have a section containing a description of the series together with a video, but it's well hidden under the side menu which is quite difficult to access.
Watch videos
The first thing you need to know about this app is that you'll need lots of patience when using it. It takes a while to load sections and even the whole app. It launches with all the most watched videos, highlights of previous shows. It displays the length of videos and offers users the option to share them online on social networks.
In addition, you can use tags to filter clips and has descriptions for each video inside the app. Still, it seems that some clips don't really work and users should be really patient. You can't adjust the video quality or even download clips to your device.
Browse through categories
The app has various categories for videos, you can filter clips by location, food, energy and protection. It tells you how many clips you'll find in each category and lets you favorite the ones that you wish to view later.
Still, it would have been nice if it has a section with articles or if at least it let users access the BBC website or app, in order to read the latest news. The app comes with lots of popup and banner ads to sponsors, not to mention ads included at the end of clips.
The app comes with an infographic for each category, but navigation is made difficult since you can slide the screen to access categories and the interface is non-responsive at times.
