Spotify is definitely one of the most popular music streaming services out there and the new numbers seem to support this claim. The company's CEO and founder, Daniel Ek, has announced on Twitter that Spotify has just reached 40 million paying subscribers.

Last year in June, Spotify reached 20 million paying subscribers, and in March this year, the company counted 30 million paying subscribers. It seems that it managed to gather another 10 million paying subscribers since then.

Spotify has actually managed to double its paying subscribers in 15 months and gain 33% more subscribers in less than six months.

The application currently does much better than Apple Music, which counts 17 million paying subscribers, a lot fewer than Spotify's 40 million. However, Apple Music only launched in January this year, so it didn't have that much time to gather more subscribers. Still, Apple Music's only managed to gather 13 million paying subscribers until April this year.

Spotify now has 100 million users, making it one of the most popular music streaming services out there. The company has been working on converting free users to paying ones and it has even considered giving premium users more advantages over free ones.

Exactly one year ago, Spotify announced that it introduced the Running feature on Android, which displayed the speed at which users were running and the tool altered the tempo of the music accordingly.
