Wire 1.30.133
Wire is one of the new messaging apps with a completely different layout than others in the same category, but that doesn't mean that it's easier to use or functional.
Amazing
but rather annoying interface
Registration is the first step to take when using this app. All you need is an email address and your full name. Next you can add a profile picture to make it easier to connect with friends. You can apply various color filters to your picture.
It's highly recommended for users to check out the tutorial and learn the gestures they need to operate the app and find friends. The app comes with some settings you can do to the app, like enable sounds, vibration and have it download pictures.
Chat with friends and exchange files
Wire gives you the option of sharing your contacts in order to find people that you might know. But this may represent a security risk, so instead use the search bar and type in names or email addresses.
You can also send invitations to people to join Wire. Tap on one user to connect and start a conversation, while the user's profile picture will be displayed in the background. You can also add colored background images in the conversation list.
Swipe right on text to reveal options, you can send pictures from your gallery, share videos or place a phone call. The audio quality is neat and you can answer to calls easily even from the lock screen. You can also use the ping feature to send an alert to the user. The app can also receive content shared from other apps. You can tap on any picture in a conversation to sketch on it.
Some shortcomings
The interface is really stylish and looks better than that of more popular messaging apps, however it's quite difficult to navigate in the app. It relies on gestures so much that new users who would skip the tutorial, would be completely confused and annoyed on how the app works.
The menu isn't accessible from every screen and you will find yourself swiping up on every page until you find it. Also, the conversation page and search page basically look the same, and at times the users would feel lost in the app, not knowing how to access its main sections.

Bottom Line
Design / UI9
The interface looks really good, artistic and stylish even with color filters applied over background images. |
Function7
While the app works well, it may leave users confused and annoyed by all the swiping of the screen. |
Security8
It doesn't peak into phone areas that it doesn't need and the app complies with European standard privacy rules. |
Battery4
Consumption is really high, the app has the potential of draining your battery so keep a charger nearby. |
Price10
Completely free of charge, no ads or in-app purchases whatsoever. |
Compatibility7
It only works on devices running Android version 4.2 or later, which means it's not accessible to older versions of this OS. |
A nice messaging app but it needs some more improvements.
